古代稀，為原產於北美加州的秋播性一年生草花，是柳葉菜科古代稀屬。別名“送春花”、“東洋龍口”，英名“Farewell to Spring”，是歡送春天，也就是「送春」的意思！開花期是在春去夏來之時。古代稀為宵待草之一種，但白天花朵不會凋謝，仍繼續開放，與一般所稱的宵待草（月見草）不同，因為月見草僅在夜晚開花，白天花朵便會枯萎或凋謝。
