豬籠草，為豬籠草屬植物的統稱，是豬籠草科的唯一屬。也是多種能夠捕食昆蟲的多年生草本植物，主產地是熱帶亞洲地區。豬籠草為地生植物，是攀援狀的亞灌木。豬籠草擁有一幅獨特的吸取營養的器官——捕蟲囊，捕蟲囊呈圓筒形，下半部稍膨大，因為形狀像豬籠，故稱豬籠草。在中國的產地海南又被稱作雷公壺，意指它像酒壺。這類能夠通過捕捉和消化昆蟲等小動物來獲取營養的植物被稱為食蟲植物。

豬籠草的捕食
豬籠草的捕蟲囊內有蜜腺能分泌蜜汁引誘昆蟲，昆蟲進入捕蟲囊後，囊蓋並不像人們想像的那樣合上，但是捕蟲囊的囊口內側囊壁很光滑，所以能防止昆蟲爬出。囊中經常有半囊水。水過多時，捲鬚無法承重還會自動傾斜倒去一部分水。因為如果囊內盛滿水，昆蟲掉在水裡後就容易逃出。捕蟲囊下半部的內側囊壁稍厚，並有很多消化腺，這些腺體泌出稍帶黏性的消化液儲存在囊底。消化液呈酸性，具有消化昆蟲的能力。事實上囊蓋一定是打開的，囊蓋的主要用途是引誘昆蟲，因為囊蓋的內壁也有很多蜜腺。 掉進囊內的昆蟲多數是螞蟻，也有一些會飛的昆蟲如野蠅和蚊等。
